Most colleges and undergraduate programs require students prepare their research papers in APA format. APA is an acronym for American Psychological Association and is generally used for writing essays and research papers for Social Sciences. APA style uses the author-date for in-text parenthetical citations; an example of such would be (Smith, 2009). The 6th Edition to APA was recently released in July 2009 and expanded its breadth of coverage, for more details you should use our Google Custom Search box below to find the APA’s 6th Edition.
In general an APA paper has four parts:
1. The title page – The first thing readers see so it’s important, “you never get a chance to make a first impression.” This page contains the title of your essay or research paper, your name and instructor/course info all centered and double-spaced.
2. The abstract – Is on the second page of your essay and is basically a summary of what you paper is about. It shouldn’t be more than 200 words and give only brief details in addition to how you are conducting your research. A poor abstract may be all the instructor reads before they have already determined your grade so put some thought into it.
3. The main body – Now you’re ready for the main body of your paper, the standard for APA is 12pt Times New Roman font and double spaced; hundreds of research paper examples on any topic can be found here.
4. The reference list – APA rules are very specific as to how the sources used in the reference list must look, if you need help creating your citations use a citation creator like the one at ResearchGenie.net until you learn the rules on your own.
MLA (Modern Language Association) and Chicago are two other popular formatting styles that you may run across. Examples and resources for each of these are available through the links above and will be posted to needessayhelp.com soon.
